Symposium Announcement:

A symposium in honor of the 60th Anniversary of Professor Brent Adams is being planned as a part of the ICCES09 (International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences 2009), to be held during 8-13 April, 2009, in Phuket Island, Thailand. This symposium will bring together several internationally recognized experts in the interdisciplinary research topics that bridge statistical characterization of microstructure with the development of sophisticated multi-scale homogenization theories for predicting macroscale properties/performance of materials used in advanced technology. Following Professor Adams many contributions to these areas, the presentations in this symposium will highlight latest advances in physics-based homogenization relations and microstructure representations. Professor Adams has pioneered the development of COMPUTATIONALLY ACCESSIBLE and EXPERIMENTALLY VERIFIABLE homogenization theories that accept as input STATISTICALLY ACCURATE representations of the microstructure. This symposium aims to provide an appropriate platform for facilitating important discussions among the materials and mechanics communities, in an effort to encourage researchers from these communities to work together to achieve common objectives.

We also plan to publish a special issue of CMC (Computers, Materials, & Continua) in conjunction with this symposium.

Symposium Organizers: David Field, David Fullwood, Hamid Garmestani, Surya R. Kalidindi, Anthony Rollett.
